Ruling on Music and Anāshīd Without Instruments

Allāh sent down the Qurʾān and decreed that it would take away worries and grief. Allāh's Messenger (ﷺ) said, whoever is afflicted by worry or grief, he should say, ”اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ، ابْنُ عَبْـدِكَ... أن تجعل القرآن ربيع قلبي“. The Qurʾān removes worries, relieves stress, and illuminates the chest. Allāh revealed the best speech. The Messenger used to listen to the Qurʾān. He would ask the companions to recite the Qurʾān to Him. The Muslim's heart was prepared for the Qurʾān. Beware of being afflicted by this music. When you listen to music, you have substituted it for the Qurʾān. And how can you substitute what is extremely bad for the best of things? The love of Qurʾān and music cannot come together in a Muslim's heart. If Allāh opens your heart to the Qurʾān, whenever you hear it being recited, you feel its impact on your body and it softens your heart. As for music, it only increases you in distance from Allāh. As for nashīd, it is from the things that are specific to women. On certain august occasions, there's no problem with women listening to it and beating the duff, with moderation. As for men listening to anāshīd, this is nothing but immorality and effeminacy.
