Abandoning Unlawful Jobs and Relying on Allāh

Sustenance must be sought through lawful means. Allāh had decreed your sustenance fifty thousand years before your creation. Allāh sent an angel to you when you were one hundred and twenty days old in your mother's womb and asked him to write your sustenance. What is with Allāh cannot be attained with disobedience. Shayṭān should not deceive you to think that you can attain what is with Allāh through disobedience. Whatever is written for you, it will surely come to you. If you take the unlawful means, it will come to you. If you take the lawful means, it will still come to you. So, why not exercise patience? It is upon this brother to abandon this job for Allāh's sake. ”من ترك أمرا لله عوضه خيرا منه.“ “Whoever abandons an affair for Allāh's sake, Allāh will replace it for him with something better.” If you were earning a dollar from this unlawful means and you only get a quarter or lesser of a dollar from lawful means. Take this [lawful means] and rely upon Allāh. This is because the unlawful wealth through which your body grows is more deserving of the fire. Then ask Allāh for pure wealth. In the morning, ask Allāh saying, ”اللهم إني أسألك علما نافعا ورزقا طيبا وعملا متقبلا.“ “O Allāh, I ask you for beneficial knowledge, pure wealth, and acceptable deeds.”
