نعم يستحبُّ فقد كان النَّبي ﷺ يؤتى بالصَّبيان فيبرِّك عليهم ويحنِّكهم. (متَّفق عليه).

Yes, it is recommended; children used to be brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he would supplicate for blessings upon them and perform Tahnik (rubbing their palate with a date). (Agreed upon).
